Monthly Archives: December 2011
… I am taking this time to reflect on the past year of my life.
January: We took a family vacation to Mexico with another family and had a blast.
My oldest son turned 11, and we celebrated at the arena with a skating party.
February: I embarked on a new fitness regimen of Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 every day following the program, and eating clean. Following Tosca Reno’s program.
March: Continued eating healthy and exercising, and was seeing results…
April: Turned 32, had one of the most depressing birthdays 😛 I am sure it will be the tune of the rest of my life. lol Hubby turned 41 this month too!
May: We took the trailer out for the first time of the year (Record breaking for us to go on May Long Weekend since we bought our trailer!)
June: My youngest, Stinky turned 8 years old, and we had a pirate Party for him at the arena.
July: My blog, Pickynikki.ca was born after a lot of time and effort to decide what I wanted to blog about, finding a name, IPs, HTML coding and a HUGE learning curve! I enjoyed it, but spent many days on my bum, working on it, and gained some weight in the process… so much for a healthy living blog 😛 We went camping again, and I even blogged about it!
August: A week at Buffalo Lake, a week in Black Elk Hockey Camp for Stinky and a few of his friends. Which turned into a camping by the arena as the long days were killing me! I actually really enjoyed it, and loved seeing Stinky improve. We also went on a road trip to Kitimat again, and helped celebrate my younger cousin’s wedding, and I made her Wedding Cake with the help of my wonderful sister
September: School started again for the kids, and myself. I have a great position again, and am thankful for the wonderful kids, and people I work with. We had a lot of great things happen this month! From Kitties, to fresh eggs from our Chickens! Life was good!
October: We decided to renovate our kitchen, and it was a month of lots of work, and decision making. It was the beginning of a stressful fall/winter! Halloween was nice as Hubby was home, and we took the kiddos out trick or treating. It was Bubba’s first year going with a group of friends… Costumes were Lego Man, and Harry Potter We also bought Bubba a Polaris Rzr 170cc, and Stinky attended another hockey clinic. I did not blog much this month here but here is the recap.
November: HELL! lol It was hard. From making more kitchen decisions, and finding nothing was going right. As well as working more than normal, and trying to advance all my commitments as I had a looming knee reconstruction coming slated for Dec/Jan on top of the kitchen renovation was a little too much for me.
My Dad flew out here and helped us deconstruct, we had a huge opening made in our kitchen. We took out a support wall to help create our dream kitchen. He was very helpful, and I wish more of our time was spent enjoying each other’s company than on Renos
December: It came, and the kitchen was delayed… and delayed some more… Waiting for contractors was driving me nuts. My kids were upset that Christmas seemed like it wasn’t happening. All we had was a sad Charlie Brown christmas tree till very early morning on December 24th. The counters arrived on December 21st, flooring was installed on the 22nd, and appliances arrived and installed on the 23rd. We had to find another plumber than the one who we contracted to come last minute to install a faucet, and the gas line for the new range so we would have running water and a stovetop during the holiday break. As December ends our kitchen is still not completed… lighting not installed, and frustrations and stressed have peaked.
I look forward to the new year… a year of new beginnings. A fresh start. I am hoping as I write a January recap that I will be posting final pictures of my kitchen, and telling you all about how much I am back on track in my health and fitness adventures.
My Goals for 2012:
- Write daily on the blog. I would like to post 365 days with a feature of “What made me happy that day… ” As this blog is about my journey to find what makes me Happy, and Healthy and all that entails.
- Make time for me: Exercising, Reading, Shaving legs, Plucking eyebrows ect… lol Sorry if TMI!
- Spend time with my family
- Spend more time outdoors enjoying life and all the amazing things out there!

Well that is all for now… Happy New Year, May 2012 Bring health and happiness to you, and yours!
This past week I had lost someone, who although not a really close friend, she was a friend who was very dear to me.
If Facebook was any inclination of the character of this person, she was really dear to a lot of people. She had impacted so many people, it really is astounding and something we should all aspire to.
She was someone who always had a smile on their face, a kind word, or a hug for everyone. Her laughter was loud and boisterous. It made you smile… as I am right now thinking of it.
She is leaving behind the love of her life that she finally found, and a beautiful 6 month old daughter.
I was really sad after hearing this news, not only for the loss of her life, but all she leaves behind. It was a loud reminder that we are NOT guaranteed tomorrow, or even the next breath. They are a gift we should not take for granted.
The next day after hearing the news I made myself some tea and I got this saying:
It could not have come at a better time, to be honest it actually lifted my spirits. Remember this as we go into the holidays. Hold your families close, and remember… hugs, cuddles and quality time are not what we should be putting off for tomorrow… fill your life with happiness, hope and love. Like my friend, Emma did.
